Dr Remi Yusuf

Dr Remi Toyin Yusuf, (AKA Toyin Falusi) is from Akure, Ondo state. She attended Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School Akure where she was taught self-value and women’s liberation. She then believed that she could reach for the space with no gender barrier. After high school she worked as a freelance presenter with the Ondo State Broadcasting Cooperation while she studied for her B.A, Ed. (Hons) with Obafemi Awolowo University. After this, she bagged a Master of Education (M. Ed) from the University of Natal, Durban South Africa. She became a secondary and tertiary educator in different countries despite the desire to study law and be a police prosecutor.

Remi is a specialist family violence practitioner with a Doctor of philosophy (PhD) in Counselling with special focus on the impact of culture and religion in intimate partner abuse, a Master of Counselling from Monash University, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from University of Southern Queensland and Graduate Certificate in Risk Assessment and Case Management from Swinburne University, Melbourne Australia. She devotes her time to provide psychotherapy, education, advocacy and Mediation to women and children victims of abuse, and education on behaviour change to men who use violence in their intimate partner relationship.

Remi was the first person of African origin to run for local government election in Baw Baw shire council in Victoria to promote inclusion and multiculturalism. She is currently the first woman president of the Nigerian Association of Victoria (NSV) Australia. She is the current Secretary of the Council of Nigerian Associations Presidents in Australia (CoNAPA) which is the apex leadership forum for all Nigerian national associations across Australian States and Territories
